So... I love this more than a legitimate Countach. This is a 1986 Fiero that has been stretched and bequeathed a 1:1 replica fiberglass body molded from an actual Countach, with an 80s IROC Camaro engine dropped in mated to an OEM Pontiac 4 speed. OEM Lamborghini wheels, glass, and paint. The fit and finish makes for a 10-footer that I think would fool a vast, vast majority of people until they hear the muscle car rumble.

Gib GP2 to Squirrel.

The wheels really sell it. They're so distinctive once you see them you're ready to believe that it's real.

To me, it’s like knock off rims or a fake watch. Even if it fools a bunch of people, at the end of the day, it’s a fake. There’s nothing wrong with not being able to afford something like that, but I detest people who fake it.

To me it all depends on the intent. This isn’t
trying
to fool people. It’s built entirely to make people go “what the fuck?” when they hear a lumpy V8 coming from a 10-footer Countach.

It’s a good fake, but you would know it’s not the real thing every time you turned the key, hit a corner, pressed the gas, moved the shifter, etc.

With the correct portions and the OEM Lamborghini wheels, it really seems like it’s trying to fool people, or at least that’s what it seems like to me.

Yup. But it’s real fun to take to car shows and watch people try to figure out WTF it is

Nah. Just makes it even more entertaining to listen to people try to figure out wtf it is. One dude thought it was a fox body which is... hilarious.

Yeah, though I know first hand that you can achieve that with a kit that isn’t a Fiero based replica, haha. Heck, I get that every time I go to a gas station with the Exocet. I think the difference is that Schmoontache is really trying to hide it’s origins and fool people. It has a weird taste to it.

The question is, knowing how awful the Countach really is according to modern reviews, would this handle worse or better?

It kind of doesn’t matter. The closest analogy I can find is cameras/lenses. Yes, a new Sigma lens on a Panasonic mirrorless is better in every way than an old Hasselblad film camera but you’ll never have the same feeling.

Except this stuff is from a similar era.

Was it built in period? I guess a better camera analogy would be one of the hipster-style digital cameras that LOOK like a film camera.

It’s a Fiero with an 80's small block.

As close as automotive trolling gets to art. I kinda dig it.

They mailed it on the roof and doors though.

I agree with your sentiment. This is isn’t done as a tribute nor “ironically.” Someone spent time and money to make a fake, because what are the the odds a real Countach shows up and reveals the truth? Virtually zero.

I think the low angle of the photos may be throwing it off. All the glass is OEM Lamborghini stuff and the whole body is a mold of a real car so I assume the greenhouse is the proper shape.
Personally I think these cars are absolutely hideous so... whatever.

Oem glass you say. That is a good replica

Yeah, that’s why the cracked windshield hasn’t been replaced. Turns out countach windshields aren’t cheap

Damn fine replica. It would trick me if it had the right seats.

Ugh. The thought of the owner going all in and purchasing that windshield only to have it get cracked. Hurts me

I’m not a massive fan of Countaches or Fieros for that matter (don’t hate either, just don’t see the point in owning one) but there has been enough time and work spent on this to receive a few props from me.
Sort of like that guy who builds the tallest building from playing cards. I don’t want to do it or own it, but I’m impressed at the energy and work applied in doing it, and give props to that.
Way better than the average cheap-car replica attempt I’ve seen online.
I mean this shit is just horrible

I really want to do a photoshoot of one of those godawful imitation kits.
